Engagement Session

How to prep for your engagement session

  1. ) Location: Where are you thinking about shooting? I have a slew of suggestions local to New York City which I have outlined below. But, I love a creative couple who has personal suggestions in mind. Do you have a special restaurant where you first met? A favorite beer store? A favorite park…etc Anything significant to you as a couple resonates even more in a photo! If nothing in particular comes to mind and you are thinking iconic NYC, here are a few fun spots:

    • Central Park! I have a great walking touring that hits some iconic spots: Conservatory Water (where the tiny model sail boats are), The Boathouse, Bethesda Fountain, Bowe Bridge, The Amphitheater, and The Mall, or even a boatride on The Lake. Other beautiful park locations include: walking through The Central Park Zoo, The Brambles, Strawberry Fields and The Pond.

    • Iconic Locations: The steps of the Met, New York Public Library, inside Grand Central, inside the subway, walking the Brooklyn Bridge, by the Flatiron/Madison Square Park, South Street Seaport, and Stone Street, cobble stones of Tribeca/Meatpacking, on top of the empire state building or Rockefeller Center.

    • Rainy Day Ideas: Under the overhangs of the Meat Packing District, inside Grand Central, inside the subway (on the platforms, in the trains, in the stations), inside the New York Public Library, inside a favorite cafe, vintage store, book store or beer store.

  2. ) What to wear: Now, every couple has their own aesthetic and I do not like to dictate what their fashion sense should be, rather, I have a few suggestions when thinking about dressing for this session. Off the bat - no clothing with writing, nothing super bright, and no overly trendy large patterns (Aztec print was a thing for a while…). I would like to help you make these images iconic and timeless, rather than looking at them 10, 20, 30 years from now going “oh wow, we actually thought that was cool..?!” — the “senior moment” lol. Thinking solid colors, and try to compliment each other’s outfit choice. Think in layers or bring a second outfit for a second look to give variety! Maybe we do some casualy looks and then up it to a more formal look. Variety is the spice of life!
